Welcome to the Official Website for the Clyde, NY Department of
Fire-Rescue Services
On behalf of the entire Clyde, NY Fire Department we welcome you to our newly designed website. Our primary goal with this new site is to keep our community updated on every aspect of the Clyde, NY Department of Fire. Since 2000 when we became a fire protection district, drastic changes have occurred within our agency. In receiving multiple grants, increasing recruitment and retention efforts, developing a new departmental training program, and most importantly being fiscally responsible to the TAXPAYERS of the fire district our agency has aggressively climbed "the ladder" and now we are one the premiere fire services in the area. Combined with a well rounded Board of Fire Commissioners, purchasing and updating various pieces of equipment and apparatus the district is "in good fiscal shape", and we will continue to work on improving all aspects of our department to better serve the residents of Clyde and Galen. We encourage any taxpayer in our district to stop in and speak to us on their concerns about the fire service. We gladly provide tours, information, home inspections and smoke detector installations to any resident in the Clyde-Galen Joint Fire District.
As our call volume increases, area departments are starting to utilize mutual aid more frequent due to the lack of manpower and resources during the daytime which will in turn affect our volume So now more than ever each and every fire department "Career and or not" will need to utilize their neighbors more and more. The Fire Service is a "antiquated" name for the Fire Department I believe that Emergency Services Department is a better term. Now fire departments across the world handle more "hazardous condition, hazardous material, community relations, traffic accidents, and utility emergencies than fires. With the addition of the home sprinklers, home and commercial fire detection systems, smoke detector requirements and fire prevention seminars "actual fires" are about 5% of a fire departments response.
Our Fire District is one that many consider challenging... The downtown buildings as you all know present many challenges "firematically", 3 and 4 story structures with a large fire load, along with them being occupied present many complex situations when our department responds to any type of "emergency" at any one of those buildings. The Erie Canal, and CSX track systems run through very remote locations in our district, which in turn create access problems when emergency responses are required there. Our Hazardous Materials team(s) continually train for emergencies, which can occur at multiple locations such as the CSX rail in which we cover several miles of, Disanto Propane and Jet Gas Inc.'s above ground propane storage facility and rail terminal, Parker-Hannifin Aerospace Corp, Thomas Electronics of NY, Victor Gas Supply, Lyons Oil Supply, Large lumber and truss manufactures, large bulk grain storage silos, and bunkers, and not to mention all of the farms that utilize anhydrous ammonia the list goes on and on, and increases each year. Although this presents us with many challenges we look at these challenges as chances to improve and become more efficient. We will always respond in a timely and efficient manner to any type of emergency we are called to. Please continue to check out our site as it is ever changing.
